Reflections on my first 50 hubs earnings and traffic

When I started writing with Hubpages I didn’t think I’d make it to 10 hubs not to mind 50.Nine months later and a lot of reading,writing and research and here I am at hub number 50. The reason I am writing this hub is because Oderog wrote a similar 50th birthday hub, this was a hub which I read over and over again and learned a lot from. So for the newbies, myself(because its useful for me as well) and anyone else who is interested I’ll try my best to organise what I have learned from hubpages and what I am still waiting to find out. If your new to hubpages please be aware this is just what has worked for me. Many other hubbers may disagree and please use the comment box below to agree or disagree with any of the points I have made. Thats how I and everyone else here will continue to learn and I think that's the main reason we are all here.

Aiming your hubs at an audience

I think the biggest lesson I have learned so far is how to write for the internet. When writing online you have to target a specific audience and then write with that audience in mind. If you want to get Google traffic use google keyword toolto find out what people are searching for. If you are writing for hubpages have a catchy title. Getting google traffic is difficult and requires research, selectingkeywords and then backlinking. I backlink using revenue sharing sites which has proved useful.There are lots of great hubs about keyword research on hubpages,the links are in the resources box below.What I have learned about writing online you can sum up as follows,writing offline requires 20% research and 80% writing, whereas writing online for a google audience takes 50% research and 50% writing.

Breaking up your hubs

Hubpages allows you to layout your hubs as you see fit. I try to use this and break the hub as best I can. This has a number of advantages, the first is it makes the hubs more profitable see below for more information and secondly it makes the hub more pleasing to the eye of the reader.

SEO

The most important thing I have learned about SEO is the need to make use of the summary box. When you are about to publish a hub always write a summary with your keywords in the text. This is a huge help when it comes to been picked up by search engines. I also think that between 10 and 15 well chosen tags are better than a thousand random ones.Finally, I cant emphasise enough how important keyword research is. If you write blindly your hub has very little chance of been read.

Monetizing Hubs

I have by no means perfected this but for what it’s worth here is what I have learned. I always leave the top right hand corner of my hub free of pictures and capsules this allows it to generate google adsense image ads which are often the best earners.Also by breaking up your hub as mentioned above you leave space for ads to generate in between capsules. I have also had some luck with amazon but it’s a long way from anything serious. I still need to improve a lot of my amazon hubs and I find that the amazon conversion rates are very low.The best way to learn using amazon is to write hubs specifically based on products. 

Google Adsense

I am not going to go into too much detail on the google earning because its forbidden in Googles terms and conditions. I’ll just say that I am near the 30euro mark thus far and that my earnings have been increasing each and every month. At the beginning I would be surprised if someone had clicked on one of my adverts during the day and nowadays I am disappointed if they haven’t. Adsense takes time and patience, I think it will take a lot more writing and the setting up of my own websites before I start to see anything near a serious income. However it is a good monitization method and always seems to grow.

Amazon

I have earned just over 10 euros through amazon. These are all through hubs that are product specific hubs. However I feel I still haven’t mastered the art of the online sales pitch, that’s something that will hopefully come with time.

Ebay

Not a member tried and failed to get in twice.

Kontera

I haven’t signed up yet.

Traffic

My traffic levels have increased quite a bit mainly through to a number of high performing hubs. Nowadays I usually get somewhere around 200 hits a day. About half of this is search engine or back link traffic and half is hubpage traffic. Traffic and Adsense have been increasing together so if anyone tells you that traffic is not equal to income they are lying.

Where to start, this list could go on...

• I haven't really got involved in the forums this is something I would like to improve upon.
• I feel I could make more money from adsense with the traffic I get.I want to find a good adsense book or website to read.Anyone have recommendations??
• I need to attend the keyword academy,its only 1$ for 30days so why not. Is it worth my while?
• I want to take part in a 30 hub marathon and eventually a 60 day one.
• I dont want to take another 9 months to write my next 50 hubs, in other words I want to publish more.
