Great ways to travel cheap
68"Travelling on the cheap" is not as difficult as it may first appear, there are numerous ways to get around the world without breaking the bank. You can avoid spending a lot of money on flights and fancy hotels. Below are just a few suggestions that may come in handy for those of you who want to travel the world without breaking the bank.
Join and use Couchsurfing
There is a new phenomenon among travellers worldwide, if you haven’t already heard of it let me fill you in. Couchsurfing is a free website that allows you to accommodate travellers in your city and in turn be accommodated whilst you travel. When you join you set up an account, something similar to a facebook account, when have decided you are going to a city you send a message to all the members in that city asking them to put you up for the night, the majority of the times you will get numerous offers. You have to be open minded and be willing to hang out with people you have just met but it is definitely the best way to see a new city. Your host will not only put you up for the night but will often show you all the hotspots of the city as well. People have travelled the world doing this without paying a penny for accommodation. It also has rating system that allows you to review person you stayed with which helps ensure safety. You’ll be amazed by how many cool and interesting people you can meet through this growing organisation. This website has more information on accomodation sharing websites.
Volunteer
Volunteering overseas is a great way to travel and experience new cultures as well as helping you to keep costs low. There are literally thousands of websites that will help arrange volunteering overseas. However, a lot of these are for profit organisations. I recommend a website called workaway , this has all types of volunteering opportunities from working in hostels to language schools and organice farms and the majority provide accommodation and sometimes food for a number of hours work a day. The joining fee is very reasonable compared to similar websites; you pay 20euros for a 2 year worldwide membership.
Work and travel
There are a number of jobs that allow you to work and travel at the same time. One of the most popular and well known jobs is a flight attendant, but who wants to go through the long term training course if you only want to do it for a few months. There are a number of other options. A number of yachts look for staff to help them move there boats from A to B some look for experience some don’t. You could also work on cruise ships; click here for further information on this.
Get cheap airline tickets
If you don’t fancy the rough and tumble of the sea there are also ways to travel through the air at low cost. Two great websites to get cheap airline tickets are www.skyscanner.com and www.kayak.com . Both will help search out the cheapest and best way to get from A to B, it is worth noting that the cheapest time to fly is always between Tuesday and Thursday so always aim to fly between those days. Also try to book well in advance or at the very last minute, an empty seat earns the airline 0$!
