Where to read whole books free online?
71So you want to read entire books online for free? Since we don’t have to pay for movies or music anymore why should we pay for books I hear you say? Well I guess you’re right, sooner or later they’ll figure out a way to stop all this information piracy so we may as well take advantage of it while we can. From what I hear a lot of the free book websites are not illegal, the books are public domain as they are past their copyright protection date. So you are not doing anything illegal by using these websites. Anyway the list below are some of my favourites, I hope you enjoy them!
Readprint gives you access to over 8000 online books and over 3,500 authors. It has a library that includes plays, poetry, essays and short stories. The site has a search option that allows you to find the book you are searching for and it also has the added benefit of allowing you to search for specific pieces within the book itself, ideal for students. The library is primarily composed of classics so if you are looking for the latest JK Rowling release look elsewhere. This one is perfect for students who don’t want to spend their money buying paperbacks. I wish I knew about it when I was in school!!
Project Gutenberg has over 30,000 free ebooks that you can use to read on your PC, Kindle or Iphone. They also offer audio books and CDs. Everything project Gutenberg do is perfectly legal. The copyright for the materials has expired within the United States and are therefore only legal within the United Stated. . They have a number of rules and regulations with regards to the printing and redistribution of the books which you should before using the site.

Librivox is a website that is currently trying to turn all the books that are in public domain into audio books. They are read and recorded by volunteers and later uploaded to the internet for your listening pleasure. All books are relatively straight forward to download and are itunes compatible. They are also looking for volunteers to record the books so if you fancy yourself as a William Shatner this is your place.
Learn out loud is a online library with over 20,000 audio books, MP3 downloads and podcasts. Their aim is to “turn dead” into learning time i.e. to use the hours we spend communting, excercising, doing chores etc into useful time. It offers the opportunity to be a paid up member where you get a certain number of learning credits for a monthly fee or you can use the free resources section. This website unlike the first two websites does not have ebooks for downloading, everything within the library is in the video or audio format
Free childrens books
If you are looking for to your children one of the classic bed time story books bygosh is your place. It has all the classics such as Alice in Wonderland and the three little pigs all of course are free and fully illustrated. It also has short stories for older children from the likes of Jack London and Robert Louis Stevenson. If your young ones have more of an appetite for stories than bygosh can handle try magickeys,it also has a large collection of books some of which you may not have heard of.
I hope the above is of use, please comment below if you know of any other good sites!

I think being able to read books for free is great - however the danger will be if this spreads to contemporary writers. If all writing becomes free then how are writers to survive - so that they can produce more books?
